What's Your Favorite Deathmatch map?

I have a few favorite DM maps of my own, but I am curious what the masses out in the ether of the internets consider to be fun, balanced DM maps.

For Doom, It would have to be level 13 (downtown). I probably played that map with my friends from Midway for ages. I think it was so fun because there were great choke points where great battles could start up, and it was fun to control the resources on the map.

In Quake, it would have to be DM4 or DM6. Now that I think about it, it would have to be DM6. I loved the fact that a faster player, using speedy tricks like bunny hopping and rocket jumping could own the map over less experienced players.

In Unreal Tournament, I would probably have to say Phobos. I like the setting of the map, it has a great feel to it, and I think it's just around the right size for a small FFA or one on one match.

All time favorite? 2fort. I can date playing this map all the way back to the original Quakeworld when Teamfortress first came out. I probably did hundreds of clan matches on this sucker, and played it countless times ever since in both TFC and now TF2.

Don't shoot the VIP

Friday, I got to meet with some really interesting people to talk about shooters and The Agency, which was pretty fricken cool.

I never knew that Fatal1ty used to play Teamfortress for Q1 way back in the day. I probably paired up against him and his clan a dozen times over all of the tournaments we played back in the day. That was pretty fun going down memory lane.

I'm pressed for time, so I can't get into depth about all that we talked about it, but it was certainly an interesting day for me. I even got to go to the shooting range with Hal Milton (my boss!), Matt Wilson (the boss of my boss!) and a bunch of VIPs. I've only fired a gun once in my life, so this was a pretty good time for me. I'm also a pretty good shot peeps! Watch out!

I've been playing alot of TF2

Since i've gotten an internet connection at home, I've been playing quite a bit of TF2. They released the medic patch while I was on hiatus from the computer, and since then have also updated the Pyro.

The unfortunate byproduct of that is everyone is playing a Medic and Pyro and none of them know what the hell they are doing. I'm watching medics trying to heal sentry guns, heal engineers that have full health, they are healing each other, and completely ignoring heavies and soldiers. It's actually getting pretty frustrating.

The pyro has gotten a much needed boost to its power, but that means everyone is trying to play them, so it basically looks like San Diego in the fall with everything on fire all the time. It's perfectly easy to deal with them if anyone wanted to actually heal the soldiers or heavies, so I again have been ending up frustrated.

I end up falling back on my favorite class time and time again because of all of this, and keep running engineer, but I just get tired of it after a while. They never seem to learn that my sentry is amazing, and so am I, so they just keep running at it like lemmings with those flame throwers, dying left and right. I don't really even have to work at it, it's pretty sad.

Ever want to play with me? The name is Wookieballs[UVM][GP]

Age of Conan

I want to do a couple of updates. Let's start with Age of Conan!

So far the verdict is, I'm not gettin' it. It's pretty when you really look at the details, I really appreciate that. Right now, at level 11 I still feel very walled in though, and I just don't feel like I can explore the world to my heart's content. So far I've fought some Pic guys, some lions, some panthers, some crocs and some guards. I'm wondering where the other ecology is sometimes.

I picked a PVP roleplay server, but not much in the way of roleplay is going on. It's probably because I'm a noob, and this game wants me to play by myself all the time in these nighttime instances.

I finally figured out where to go for some PVP action, which quickly resulted in my being killed in 10 seconds by a guy that is going around only killing girl characters and advertising his "No Girls Allowed" guild (lol! *shakes head*). I'm not sure what he is getting out of being level 20 and killing level 10 peeps, but hey more power to him, he's officially on the to-do *list* now.

It's my hope that the world opens up more when I get away from this island. Right now it's feeling a little cramped for me, especially after developing Timorous Deep.

I've tried a Barbarian out so far, and a Necro. I stuck with the necro to level 11, but even now I'm wondering how I will be playing this character in 20 levels. I think I may start up yet another new char, but I really want to get away from this area, and I think my necro is my only hope at this point.

This made me lol

This is particularly funny to me for a couple of reasons...
  • Runnyeye The Return was my last piece of work on EQII, it's nice to see it is well recieved enough to have a comic made by my friend Brasse based on it.
  • I laugh that the cooking halflings remained in game, because I was worried someone would take it out.
  • I play a halfling.
  • I just spoke to Srukin on messenger, and he was loling about it as well, because this zone was the last thing HE worked on in EQ2 as well, and it's best if I quote him: "ahay eah, the thought of rescuing the halflings never even entered my mind." rofl

Hours later

I'm still installing! wtf! Still on the first disk! LOL

Age of Conan

I finally have a real internet connection at home, so of course the first thing I do is go out and buy Age of Conan. The install is not inspiring awe so far, since it's been a good 30 minutes and the first disk is still installing.

I knew I should have been worried since it's a Funcom game, but hating on a company just based on one games mistakes is not something I'm about to endorse.
